I bought the bike from a private seller and want to wait before you register after classes end.

DMV in your area is the best source for this information. It may be quite different from one place to another. Where I live, when the registration expires, regardless of the individual, a reinstatement fee must be paid when you re-registered to avoid you said, it's a new record, but they gave you with the full sales tax as if you bought from a dealer ... ask your law ...
